Apple Pie – Crumble and Pie

Ingredients:
Pie Shell:
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup butter, softened and cubed
6 tbsp of ice water
Filling:
6 medium apples, peeled and chopped
1/4 cup of butter
2 tsp of cinnamon
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of water
3 tsp of corn starch
Crumble Topping:
1 cup of oats
1 cup of flour
2 tsp of cinnamon powder
3 tbsp of brown sugar
1/2 cup of butter
Instructions:
Mix flour, sugar and salt in a bowl.
Add softened butter into the mixture and mix until well combined
Add ice water to the dough and keep mixing until just combined.
place dough in fridge to chill while you make the filling.
add butter to the pan to melt over medium heat. Once melted, add chopped apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar into the pan. Cook for about 2 mins.
Add just enough water to cover the apples. Put the lid on, and simmer for about 15mins or until the apples have softened
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch, water, and lemon juice until well mixed.
Add mixture to the pan and cook until the sauce has thickened. Make sure the sauce just covers the apples, if it doesn’t add more water.
Once the filling is down, set aside and let cool.
Take the dough out of the fridge and roll it flat on a floured surface. The pie shell should be about 3mm thick.
cover the pie pan with the shell. Use a fork to poke holes in the dough.
preheat oven to 350f.
Bake pie shell for 15 mins.
Take the pie shell out and put filling inside.
put the rest of the pie shell on top, you can do a lattice pattern if you like.
(optional) you can brush on egg wash on pie shell to make it glossy.
put into oven to bake for 35-45 mins. Or u til golden brown
